"content": "This forth version is a rebase of Jen's v3, fixing meson build\nand checkpatch errors.\nSome checkpatch warnings remain to keep consistency with other\ncode.\n\nThis series adds a new forwarding mode 'noisy'. It proposes\nenhancements to testpmd to simulate more realistic behavior of a guest\nmachine engaged in receiving and sending packets performing Virtual\nNetwork Function (VNF).\n\nThe goal is to enable simple of measuring performance impact on cache and\nmemory footprint utilization from various VNF co-located on the\nsame host machine.\n\nThis series of patches adds the new command line switches to\ntestpmd:\n\n--noisy-buffersize-before-sending [packet numbers]\n\nKeep the mbuf in a FIFO and forward the over flooding packets from the\nFIFO. This queue is per TX-queue (after all other packet processing).\n\n--noisy-flush-timeout [delay]\nFlush the packet queue if no packets have been seen during\n[delay]. As long as packets are seen, the timer is reset.\n\n\nOptions to simulate route lookups:\n\n--noisy-memory-footprint [size]\nSize of the VNF internal memory (MB), in which the random\nread/write will be done, allocated by rte_malloc (hugepages).\n\n--noisy-nb-rnd-write [num]\nNumber of random writes in memory per packet should be\nperformed, simulating hit-flags update. 64 bits per write,\nall write in different cache lines.\n\n--noisy-nb-rnd-read [num]\nNumber of random reads in memory per packet should be\nperformed, simulating FIB/table lookups. 64 bits per read,\nall write in different cache lines.\n\n--noisy-nb-rnd-read-write [num]\nNumber of random reads and writes in memory per packet should\nbe performed, simulating stats update. 64 bits per read-write, all\nreads and writes in different cache lines.\n\nJens Freimann (2):\n testpmd: add forwarding mode to simulate a noisy neighbour\n testpmd: update testpmd doc to include noisy forwarding mode\n\n app/test-pmd/Makefile | 1 +\n app/test-pmd/meson.build | 1 +\n app/test-pmd/noisy_vnf.c | 204 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++\n app/test-pmd/noisy_vnf.h | 41 ++++++\n app/test-pmd/parameters.c | 54 ++++++++\n app/test-pmd/testpmd.c | 52 +++++++\n app/test-pmd/testpmd.h | 17 +++\n doc/guides/testpmd_app_ug/run_app.rst | 27 ++++\n doc/guides/testpmd_app_ug/testpmd_funcs.rst | 7 +-\n 9 files changed, 402 insertions(+), 2 deletions(-)\n create mode 100644 app/test-pmd/noisy_vnf.c\n create mode 100644 app/test-pmd/noisy_vnf.h"
